LORCAN

STYLE.

Dreampop, Shoegaze, Ambient, Bedroom Pop, Avant Pop. Songs for introspection perfect for daydreamers who stare out of windows.

BIO.

Lorcán has been a solo act since 2019, with help from friend and bandmate Seth Taylor. After making his debut in 2020 with a series of home recorded singles, Lorcán is making an impression on the Bristol music scene. His music traverses the space between dream pop, ambient and indie rock. His songs are worlds of contrasts, with mellow baritone vocals against crunching drum machines and crisp ethereal synths twinkling over jangling vibrato guitar. Lorcán’s music captures the transience of lived experience, celebrating both the mundane and the dreamlike aspects of life.

“I started performing when I was 10. At my first ever gig, me and my little band played ‘I Wanna Be Your Dog’ by Iggy Pop and The Stooges.

Q & A.

FOR THOSE THAT HAVEN’T HEARD OF YOU BEFORE, DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN ONE SENTENCE.

Lorcán’s dreamy bedroom songs.

Radiohead, Björk, Joy Division, Matisse, My Mum and Dad, Frankie Cosmos, Aldous Harding, Daniel Johnston.

SHARE WITH US AN INTERESTING ANECDOTE ABOUT ONE OF YOUR SONGS.

My upcoming single features the voice of my childhood friend Ailsa Tully. We hadn’t seen each other for over 10 years but reconnected through the music scene. I stumbled across her Instagram page and followed her because I liked her music, before realising who she was. So I reached out to her, and we decided to collaborate. The single comes out on my birthday and the day after her birthday, as we were born just a day apart.

YOU ARE SENT TO MARS, NO CHECK-IN BAGGAGE, AND YOU CAN TAKE ONE RECORD – WHICH ONE?

In Rainbows by Radiohead. No question. It seems to be the only album I can listen to repeatedly and never stop being amazed by.

YOUR FAVOURITE MUSIC VENUE IN THE U.K.?

The Cube, Bristol. It’s a community owned venue that I have played a couple of times and seen some of my most memorable gigs at.

WE ARE PROUDLY SUBCULTURE-INSPIRED. HOW ABOUT YOU?

For sure, everything I do is in some way part of a subculture. In my music I try to express myself as honestly as possible and that always comes out a bit outside of the pop norms. Some people say my music is shoegaze/dreampop, others say it’s ambient indie music or even slowcore. These are all music scenes that I am happy to identify with and I love the unique culture that comes with each one.
