PERFECT FOR: Carefree folks who enjoy some down-to-earth acoustic music
WHO: Coco and Holly Chant
WHERE FROM: Papa New Guinea > London
STARTED PERFORMING: Together since they were children
For this sister act, their environment has been a worldly experience of travelling around the globe. From Papua New Guinea to London, their wanderlust has done nothing but enhancing and enriching their sweet euphony, distinctly distinguishing them from many other bands of late. Offering a warmth and narrative of distant, peaceful places for those of us on our last legs from the London grind.
Not only do these harmonious tunes reflect their observations along the way, but are also entwined with intelligent, thought-provoking opinions of current social and political matters. Escapism, yes, but not without the weight of our social responsibility in the city we call home.
WHAT/WHO INSPIRED YOU TO START CREATING MUSIC?
I can remember wanting to play guitar at an early age. Our older sister Krystle played acoustic for a while but moved on to piano so I would mess about on that one and then when I was 11, my parents got me an electric guitar and I started lessons. Holly started writing songs young and asked if I could help out on the guitar parts so it just went from there. I guess it was their influence that pushed me into creating music.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE VENUE THAT YOU HAVE PLAYED?
We supported Mika last year and one leg of the tour was around Italy. All of the venues we played there were stunning. My favourite was one in Molfetta as it overlooked the ocean. Just as we were playing could see the sun set, it was amazing!
WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST MUSICAL INFLUENCE?
Rilo Kiley/Jenny Lewis.
WHAT FUELS YOUR MUSIC WRITING PROCESS?
Experiences and the places we have been. And what we’ve been reading about or talking to people about.
