Rock and Metal. Originating from Rock N Roll, Rock is a broad genre that draws on blues, rhythm and blues and folk and has spawned most subculture music genres on the 20th and 21st century. Often with a political or social message, Rock music might have become widespread, but it has given and continues to give expression to youth opposition to societal norms.
With its origins in blues rock, psychedelic rock and acid rock the late 1960s and early 1970s saw the birth of the legendary Metal bands including Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and later in the 1970s Iron Maiden and Motorhead joined the pack. The Plasmatics fused metal and punk with Wendy O going on to perform a duet with Lemmy.
We offer Lemmy’s autobiography White Line Fever, Black Sabbath-Symptom of the Universe along with Defender of the Faith a study by Peter Beste of Heavy Metal, one of the most fervent in the history of subculture. Other titles include The Beatles: The Band that Changed the World, Just Kids by Patti Smith and Marc Bolan: Beautiful Dreamer.
