I WAS A ROBOT BY WOLFGANG FLURSKU: AC-BK116
Kraftwerk: the perfectly polished pioneers of electronic music. Born with a synth-driven heart of steel and a carefully krafted façade, they were a band of the late 21st century that were undoubtedly before their time.
Seemingly the coolest thing to emerge out of Germany since Oktoberfest, the band, however, remain a little elusive and misunderstood. With their trademark robotic trances, futuristic fusions of sound and autonomous attitude, the band are often difficult and somewhat impossible to crack.
‘I Am Robot’ – written by Kraftwerk’s original drummer Wolfgang Flur – attempts to demystify the electronic icons from the inside out. In a tale of comedy and tragedy, Wolfgang charts the journey from the band’s early days in Dusseldorf during the sixties to the tribulations the drummer personally faced during the ‘80s. The dysfunctional foursome is written about with previously unseen humour and flair – there’s even a few scandalous anecdotes in there for good measure – and it goes some way to drilling into the concrete cool of Kraftwerk.
