Strange Bones is a British band from the seaside town of Blackpool. With a sound that effortlessly weaves between genres – owing as much to punk rock as they do drum and bass – and one of the most exciting live shows on the planet, Strange Bones are an underground sensation primed to explode.
The Bentham brothers – Bobby, Jack and Will – were surrounded by instruments and loud music as children and have been playing together for over a decade. Their parents filmed live shows for a living, capturing the cathartic intensity of genre defining acts such as Black Flag and UK Subs.
Part of a rowdy emerging scene in the Lancashire seaside town, the band’s EP, Blitz Part 2 has been bigged up by the likes of Kerrang and BBC Radio 1, while CLASH described the band as ‘hitting harder than lightning’.
Strange Bones is a barrage of everything from Punk to trap to hip-hop and electronica. The result is a cutting-edge mix of distorted guitars and bone-crushingly heavy sub-bass, all held together by Bentham’s manic vocal delivery and biting social commentary.
On December 4th, Strange Bones released NINE LIVES, a track co-written with Calva Louise, after both bands recently signed with the American label FRKST, an imprint of 300 Entertainment run by Johnny Stevens, Highly Suspect frontman.
FOR THOSE THAT HAVEN’T HEARD OF YOU BEFORE, DESCRIBE YOUR BAND IN ONE SENTENCE:
Bobby: Hells elevator music.
Will: Punk n bass organised chaos.
Nathan: Acid trip breakbeat fun.
Jack: Party at the end of the world
I take influence from everything punk, to drum and bass, and all in between. But I often find musical influence comes from places I wouldn’t usually expect, like a film soundtrack, or a situation.
SHARE WITH US AN INTERESTING ANECDOTE ABOUT ONE OF YOUR SONGS:
I take a lot of influence from The Prodigy. I went through a phase of writing, where whenever I was putting a melody down it always ended up sounding like ‘Breathe’. It got so frustrating that I had to listen to a Mozart vinyl box set for 2 days straight to wash my mind of all things acid synth lines.

WE ARE PROUDLY SUBCULTURE INSPIRED. HOW ABOUT YOU ?
Our parents spent the last 40 years filming punk bands, so we grew up around punks and skins, which definitely inspired us a lot. I like to take bits of style from various subcultures. I fell in love with creepers when we used to watch Goldblade as kids!
